ROLE SNAPSHOT

Thomson Reuters Labs is hiring a Lead Applied Scientist specializing in Natural Language Processing to drive AI innovation at the intersection of user needs and technical feasibility. As a technical leader, you'll design and deliver AI solutions that enhance Thomson Reuters' products using state-of-the-art information retrieval, NLP, and generative AI techniques, while providing strategic input on long-term AI direction to business and Labs leadership. This role requires a PhD in a relevant discipline (or Master's with comparable experience) plus 7+ years of hands-on experience building IR/NLP systems for commercial applications, with demonstrated ability to translate complex problems into successful AI applications and architect end-to-end solutions in focused workshop settings. You'll leverage context engineering, model development, and evaluation design to build and optimize solutions, lead stakeholder engagement across UX, Product, and Engineering teams, and mentor scientists and engineers on best practices. Professional experience scaling yourself and leading through others in an applied research setting is essential, along with production code writing skills and well-managed software delivery capabilities. You'll develop deep customer problem knowledge, maintain technical expertise through product deliverables and published research, and have opportunities to attend premier conferences like ACL, EMNLP, NAACL, NeurIPS, ICLR, SIGIR, and KDD.
