ROLE SNAPSHOT

Thomson Reuters is hiring a Lead Applied Scientist to build cutting-edge GenAI and machine learning agent systems that combine neural and symbolic reasoning, transform how millions of legal, tax, and compliance professionals interact with information through intelligent agents that understand their domain, anticipate needs, and evolve with workflows. You'll design and deploy neuro-symbolic AI systems integrating neural learning with structured knowledge representation and ontologies, build multi-modal models synthesizing insights across text, documents, and structured data, and develop adaptive domain-specific reasoning capabilities for legal, regulatory, and financial contexts. This role requires a PhD in Computer Science, Machine Learning, AI, or related field (or Master's with equivalent experience) plus 7+ years building production IR/NLP systems for commercial applications with demonstrated business impact. You'll own end-to-end research deliverables from ideation to production deployment, establish comprehensive AI evaluation frameworks and observability systems ensuring reliability and transparency, and leverage advanced information retrieval techniques, prompting workflows, and model training strategies. Strong software engineering capabilities with MLOps and managed delivery pipeline experience are essential, along with proven track record translating complex problems into successful AI applications and scaling impact through others in applied research settings. You'll lead stakeholder engagement across UX, Product, and Engineering teams, mentor scientists and engineers on best practices, and shape long-term AI strategy with business and Labs leadership.
