ROLE SNAPSHOT
Comcast Advertising is hiring an Observability Engineer to architect, implement, and manage telemetry pipelines and monitoring ecosystems, operating as a shared service provider ensuring development teams have self-service tools for high-visibility into their applications while improving Developer Experience (DevX) by reducing friction in the monitoring lifecycle, automating telemetry ingestion, and building resilient systems that mitigate tech debt. You'll build and manage centralized observability platforms (Elastic, Prometheus, Grafana) serving as shared resources for all internal development teams, design and optimize telemetry pipelines ensuring high-fidelity data collection, transformation, and routing using OpenTelemetry (OTel), and partner with software engineering teams to understand their pain points while providing consultation and tooling that makes "monitoring by default" easy and intuitive. This role requires a Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Computer Science, or related field (relevant work experience also considered) plus 3-4 years of experience in SRE, DevOps, or Platform Engineering roles, with deep expertise in OpenTelemetry, Elastic (ELK/ECK), Prometheus, and Grafana, plus proficiency in Infrastructure as Code using Ansible and Terraform for managing cloud resources and configuration. You'll write and edit code in Python or Go to automate manual processes, build sophisticated Grafana dashboards and alerting logic providing actionable insights, create clear technical documentation and "golden paths" for developers to self-serve their observability needs, and integrate monitoring and reporting into CI/CD deployment pipelines to ensure system health validation during every release. Strong UNIX/Linux background with firm grasp of CLI utilities, network protocols (HTTP/TLS), and asynchronous messaging is essential, along with experience deploying and operating applications in public cloud environments (AWS, Azure, or GCP) and service mindset prioritizing ease of use and platform reliability. Bonus: Comcast offers comprehensive benefits connecting you to support when it matters most, with options for physical, financial, and emotional wellbeing, plus equal opportunity workplace committed to inclusion and diversity.
